このブログを英語で書くことに至った経緯は、
オーストラリアやアロマセラピーのことを、日本人以外の人にも広めたかったから
というのがきっかけですが、
英語で書くことによって、私の英語力の向上にも役立つのではとも思ったからです。
ブログを書くときは、日本語で書いて、
それを英訳（ほぼ意訳）するのですが、
私は、実は英訳の知識はあまりないのです・・・。
10年前にオーストラリアに行ったとき、
私の目標は、英語を上達させるためではなく、
海外で新たな世界を見ること、見聞を広めること、
そして何よりも
日本語教師として、日本のことを外国の人に伝えること、
生徒さんの日本語能力を上達させることでした。
オーストラリア滞在中は、寮生活だったのですが、
日本人の生徒さんが何人かいましたし、
外国人の生徒さんでも日本語が話せる人が多かったので、
英語を話す機会がそもそも少なかったです。
でも、
帰国後、海外に半年以上もいて英語があまり話せないことに苛立ちを覚え、
日本にいながらにして英語をマスターさせる方法を考えました。
英会話学校も考えましたが、
当時はジプシー上がりで金銭的余裕がなかったので、
独学の道を選びました。
そんなとき、”the practice”という、アメリカの法廷ドラマに出会いました。
日本で陪審員制度が始まる際に、
時折紹介されていたドラマなので、ご存じの方もいらっしゃるかと思います。
高校生の時に、ほんの一時ですが、
弁護士に憧れた時期があったので、
そのドラマにはすぐに嵌ってしまいました。
字幕と吹き替えと両方のバージョンで見ているうちに、
映画や海外ドラマの翻訳に興味を持つようになりました。
そして、映像翻訳の世界を志したのです・・・

映像翻訳の学校では、
英語から日本語に翻訳する際の、
字幕と吹き替えの翻訳について勉強しました。
また、仕事は運よく翻訳会社に入社し、
映像翻訳ではありませんが、
実務翻訳の校正を担当しました。
会社でも学校でも、英語から日本語への翻訳に携わっていたので、
英訳のルールはあまりよくわかりません。
なので、ブログでの英語力もあまり自信がありません。。。
すみません（言い訳のつもり・・・）。

The main reason I started writing this blog in English is that I wanted as many people as possible (not limited to Japanese) to know aromatherapy and Australia.
At the same time I thought it might be a good idea to do it because it could improve my English.
When I write this, I do it in Japanese first, and then translate them into English (not word to word though) because I am not familiar with E-J translation.
When I went to Australia 10 years ago, the main focus was not to improve English but to experience and know something new abroad.
Beyond that I went there as a Japanese teaching assistant, so I wanted to tell about our country to non-Japanese people and to help students who studied our language.
While I was in Australia, I stayed in a dormitory.
In addition to the fact that there were some Japanese students, there were many students who had studied or were studying Japanese at school, so I didn’t have much opportunity to study English.
However, when I came back home, I was irritated with myself that I couldn’t speak English even after I had stayed in an English-speaking country for more than half a year.
So I was thinking of how I could improve my English while in Japan.
There were some choices for that, but after roaming over for nearly a year, I didn’t have much money :’( so I decided to study on my own….
And I encountered an American TV drama, “the practice”.
Well, when I was a high school student, I longed for becoming a lawyer.
So it didn’t take much time before I was hooked on this drama.
And I came to become interested in the movie translation and knocked on the door to the field.

At the movie-translation school, I studied translation of subtitles and voice-over acting from English to Japanese,
Luckily, I worked at a translation company at that time and I was in charge of business translation.
So it helped me a lot to understand English documents.
However, both at school and office, I did mainly E-J translation.
I am afraid to say this but I haven’t familiarized myself with J-E translation.
So,
I am not confident in my English writing in this blog….
