アロマレシピ④~Aroma recipe 4~

キッチン回り掃除パウダー(50g)

例)
ティートゥリー 3滴
ユーカリプタス 3滴

重曹 50g

重曹はそれだけでもかなり洗浄力がありますが、
殺菌力のあるティートゥリーやユーカリプタスのエッセンシャルオイルをプラスすると、
さらに効果があります。
コンロ周りの頑固な汚れを、このパウダーをかけて1分ほど置き、
布巾で拭くと、さーっと消えます。

Cleaning powder for kitchen (50g)

Example)
Tea tree 3 drops
Eucalyptus 3 drops

Baking powder 50g

Baking powder alone works quite well.
However, if you add tea tree and/or eucalyptus oils which have bactericidal power, it works better.
Put this power with essential oils on the stove where there is greasy dirt and leave it for 1 minute, then wipe it off.

はじまりはいつも雨~Always rainy at the beginning~

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMGbz6BtHqE

CHAGE&ASKA

“When I meet you
It is usually rainy, incredibly
It is like walking under the tunnel of water
Which makes me feel happy
Whenever I made love to you
I didn’t feel it was not only a matter of love
Every time I took you out
Rain was all around us
Your name is quite common
So is kindness
But I realised
That your name was precious, very special, as I talked to you
Do I love you well and much enough?
Do you think I can
More than anyone else?

I looked up in the sky tonight
Because I was going to ask you out.
Always rainy at the beginning
Trying to escape from the stars in the sky

Written by Ryo Aska
Translated by me (Please note that it is paraphrased, so not as exact as what the author wants to say. Could be a wrong translation)

“CHAGE & ASKA” is the first duo musician that I liked in my life.
One of them, ASKA, has his unique style in his lyrics, melodies, and singing.
His world view described in his poems was hard to understand for me (and still is!), but very attractive to me and led me to the world of poem.
It was when I was in Year 8.
I wanted to express my feeling and thoughts like ASKA did in his poems, so I listened to myself and tried to put them into words.
A few years before I started writing poems, I learned a little bit of composing music, so I also learned how to make poems to music ( imaging as if I was a singer-song-writer!).

Recently, after those years of not writing any, I suddenly made up my mind to write poems.
I am sure that I experienced much more than that time, but I couldn’t express my feeling and thoughts freely.
I wrote only 5 poems in 4 weeks….
I wonder why is it because of short of vocabulary or because of lack of honesty….?

夏だね~It’s summer~

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R5LwtcOy8o

“June is the month
when you hardly remember the first spring storm of the year
My mind is absent,
Counting the days until the rosy summer holiday

You look great with smile.
I feel so cheerful
My heart beats more without reason
All of my body feel the harmony of sky and sea

Burning sun is rocking
Which leads to bubbling courage of me
And so now
I think I can tell you something
In a lighthearted mood
Because it’s summer”

Written by Nobuteru Maeda
Translated by me (Please note that it is paraphrased, so not as exact as what the author wants to say. Could be a wrong translation)

Well, this is too too too late to say “it is summer”.
When it comes to summer, this music band comes to my mind first.
I loved this band so much that I used to be a member of its official fan club a decade ago.
However, since I had no one to go out with for their concert, I left the fan club.
Since then I have not updated their new songs any more.
I don’t know their new songs, but I still love their songs that I used to listen to every day.
Mr. Maeda’s voice, who is a singer of the band, makes me feel cool in summer, especially this song.
This sticky hot weather can get away from me when I listen to it.

His poems tell very common feeling that anyone can have in with very simple words.
And the words absorb into inner part of me with the very fresh melody.
Lots of their songs hit my centre, which works not only for love but also for when I face difficulties and am lost my way in life.

Their songs are generally famous for representing summer, but they are worth listening in other seasons too!

アロマレシピ②~Aroma recipe 2~

Repellent (50mL)

Example)
Citronella 10 drops
Lemon grass 5 drops
Lavender 5 drops
Basil 5 drops
Cedar wood 5 drops
Ethanol 25 mL
Purified water 25 mL

This worked pretty well.
I am a mosquito magnet who is very attractive to them (!) If I stay outside for 5 minutes in summer, my body gets heaps of bumps and looks ugly.
When I was walking in the bush, I was bitten by some mosquitos.
However, I sprayed this in the way, it worked and no more mosquitos came to me!!!
Also, this doesn’t smell like a so-called repellent and smell refreshing.
It is highly recommended for this time of year!

1秒4文字ルール~The rule of subtitles~

からの続き)

吹き替え翻訳は、
役者の口の動きに合わせてセリフを翻訳し、
原文により忠実に訳せると思うのですが、
私は、字幕翻訳の方が、
パズルみたいで面白いなと思います。

字幕づくりの基本的なルールは、
「1秒4文字」
つまり、1秒のセリフに対して使える文字数は4文字ということです。

例えば、
“Hi, how are you?”

(Continuation from
http://snow-forest-smile.blogspot.com/2011/07/english-and-me.html)

Voice-over acting should be translated along with actor’s/actress’s lip movement.
I think this method could be more précised and similar to the original, but I found subtitle translation was more fun like a puzzle.

The basic rule or making subtitles is “four letters for 1 second”, which means that you can use 4 characters for the line that lasts 1 second.

For example,
“Hi, how are you?”
If this line lasts 2 seconds,
Multiplying 2 seconds by 4 letters equal 8 letters.
So you can use up to 4 letters (in Japanese).
「やあ げんきにしてる?」
Is 9 characters, so not allowed.
「やあ げんきかい?」
Is ok since there are 7 letters.

The speed of speech differs from people to people, so there can be many ways that you can translate to one sentence.

Other than this, there are some rules of making subtitles.
Like,
You are allowed to use 13 letters in a line or
You are not allowed to use comma and period.
Working on subtitle translations are like solving a puzzle and interesting.

For the last several years, it is said that recognition of characters is getting worse among Japanese people.
So there seems to be an argument that we have to decrease the number of letters from 4 to 3 per second.
If it really happened, most of the lines would have to be paraphrased more and even more difficult to be translated.

Even now I would like to try subtitle translations, but it is very hard to find this job, so this could end up dreaming.

英語と私~English and me~

http://snow-forest-smile.blogspot.com/2011/07/rule-of-subtitles.html

The main reason I started writing this blog in English is that I wanted as many people as possible (not limited to Japanese) to know aromatherapy and Australia.
At the same time I thought it might be a good idea to do it because it could improve my English.

When I write this, I do it in Japanese first, and then translate them into English (not word to word though) because I am not familiar with E-J translation.

When I went to Australia 10 years ago, the main focus was not to improve English but to experience and know something new abroad.
Beyond that I went there as a Japanese teaching assistant, so I wanted to tell about our country to non-Japanese people and to help students who studied our language.

While I was in Australia, I stayed in a dormitory.
In addition to the fact that there were some Japanese students, there were many students who had studied or were studying Japanese at school, so I didn’t have much opportunity to study English.

However, when I came back home, I was irritated with myself that I couldn’t speak English even after I had stayed in an English-speaking country for more than half a year.
So I was thinking of how I could improve my English while in Japan.
There were some choices for that, but after roaming over for nearly a year, I didn’t have much money :’( so I decided to study on my own….

And I encountered an American TV drama, “the practice”.

Well, when I was a high school student, I longed for becoming a lawyer.
So it didn’t take much time before I was hooked on this drama.
And I came to become interested in the movie translation and knocked on the door to the field.
(Regarding the movie translation, I wrote it separately
http://snow-forest-smile.blogspot.com/2011/07/rule-of-subtitles.html)

At the movie-translation school, I studied translation of subtitles and voice-over acting from English to Japanese,

Luckily, I worked at a translation company at that time and I was in charge of business translation.
So it helped me a lot to understand English documents.

However, both at school and office, I did mainly E-J translation.
I am afraid to say this but I haven’t familiarized myself with J-E translation.
So,
I am not confident in my English writing in this blog….
Amen….
