「優しさに包まれて」

アメリカ、オーストラリア、トルコ、フィンランド、日本などでは、今日は母の日。

そして、ある国ではカーネーションがお母様たちに贈られます。

ところで、母の日にカーネーションが贈られるようになった由来を

ご存知でしょうか。

1905年に、アメリカ人女性のお母様が亡くなった時に、

葬儀で、お母様の大好きだったカーネーションを参列者に配りました。
これが、母の日の始まりで、
その後、ウェストバージニア州で５月の第二日曜日を「母の日」とし、
さらに1914年にはアメリカ全土で制定されました。

アメリカでも日本でも、カーネーションを贈るのが一般的のようですが、

私がオーストラリアにいた頃、
私の知人は、菊を送っていました。

スペインやモナコの国花。
花言葉は、「純粋な愛情、貞節、感動、良き競争相手」など。

カーネーションのカービングは、

かなり単調作業。

ひたすらギザギザの花びらを彫るだけです。

でも、この「ギザギザ」の技を磨くのは、

カービングでさらなるステップを踏むための一幕。

やるしかありません！

使ったナイフは１本、

所要時間は2.5時間でした。

“With Full of Kindness and Gratitudes”

In some countries, such as the United States of America, Australia, Turkey, Finland, and Japan, it is a Mother’s Day today.

And in some countries, they give carnations to mothers.

Do you know when and how we started sending carnations on Mother’s Day?

In 1905, an American lady lost her mother, she gave people at the funeral carnations that her mother loved.

It is the start of “Mother’s Day.”
Then the governor or West Virginia set the second Sunday of May a Mother’s Day.
In 1914, Mother’s Day was established as it is all over America.

It seems that carnation is the common flower for Mother’s Day in America and Japan.

However, in Australia, I saw some of my friends gave chrysanthemum to their mothers.
(*the desinence “mum” sounds the same as “mom”, that’s why)

Carnations are national flowers in Spain, Monaco, etc., and its flower language is “pure love, virtue, sensation, rival” etc.

Carving carnations on soap is a very simple work, just to keep making serrated edges.

Having said that, to step further in carving, this is a must technique, so I have to go through it!

One knife was used for this work.

It took me about 2.5 hours.
