桜 ~ SAKURA ~

カービングで桜を彫ったので、
桜に関する記事をちょっと書きたいと思います。

桜は、菊と並び、日本の国花です。
（東京都花、山梨県花でもある）

沖縄では２月下旬頃に満開になり、それから徐々に北上し、
私たちはこれを「桜前線」と呼んでいます。
東京ですと、だいたい３月下旬から４月上旬のころが見頃ですね。
そして、北は北海道まで行くのにそれからさらに１か月。
桜の日本横断の旅はだいたい２か月くらいです。
最高気温が14～5度、最低気温が5度前後になると、桜の花が咲くと言われています。

ちょうど、卒業・入学シーズンと重なるので、印象深く、
日本人にとっては旅立ちの代表のようなお花です。

日本＝桜、というイメージは、
我々日本人だけのものではないようです。
この時期になると、海外からのお客様が多数お見えになり、
私の海外の友人の中にも、
是非この時期に旅行をしたいと思っている方が大勢います。

なぜ、桜は人気なのか！？

まず、種類に多少の違いはあれ、日本のどこででも、この時期になると桜が見られるようになる。
知名度はかなりのものです。
ただし、桜の花の命は短く、開花から見頃までは１週間と短い。
そして、散るときはゆっくりと、宙を舞うように散っていく・・・。
そんなはかなさゆえ、人気があるのかもしれません。

そして、桜を調べていくうちに面白い真実を発見。
桜は木全体に花を咲かせるため、とても存在感があります。
それだけではなく、葉が出る前に花が咲く、という、珍しい一生を辿ります。
種類にもよりますが、代表的な「ソメイヨシノ」の色そのものが、
春らしい穏やかな雰囲気があるためとも考えられます。

花言葉は、「優れた美人」
私も桜のような女性になりたいものです。

I carved cherry blossoms on a soap, so I would like to share something about cherry blossoms with you.

Cherry blossom is our national flower as well as chrysanthemum.

The season of cherry blossoms starts in Okinawa, the south island of Japan, in late February and move northwards, which is called the “cherry blossom front.”

In Tokyo it is in its full bloom between late March and early April.
It is usually a month later that the front reaches Hokkaido, the north island of Japan.
A travel of cherry blossoms from the south to the north is about 2 months.
It is said that it blooms when the top temperature is about 14-15 C and low temperature is about 5 C.

For us Japanese, cherry blossom is one of the most important and impressive flowers because it comes out when we have graduation/entrance ceremonies.
It represents our departure of life.

The image of “Japan = cherry blossom” seems to be familiar with some people overseas too.
Around this time of year many people visit us from overseas to view cherry blossoms.
I have some friends who also would like to come to Japan in spring for the flower.

So how come it is so popular!?!?

First of all, you can see cherry blossoms all over Japan in spring even though the kind is a bit different.
However, the life of the flower is so short (only a week from starting to bloom to its best) and dissipates slowly as if it floats in the air like dancing….
Such a vanity makes it even popular, I guess.

I learned a bit about cherry blossoms.

The flower blooms all over the tree, which makes it look gorgeous and has a presence.
In addition, the flower comes out before leaves appear, which is not common for a plant.

Also, it depends on the species, but for example, “Someiyoshino”, the most popular one in Japan, is considered to have the colour (pinkish white or whitish pink?) that produces the atmosphere and feeling of spring and tranquility.

The flower language is “A beautiful and intelligent woman.”
I wish I would like to be one :)
