カービングとの出会い~How I Met Carving~

私の母が、包丁使いがとてもうまく、
果物や野菜を細かく綺麗に切ったり彫ったりして、
お客さまを持てなしていました。
また、中・高校時代、私が持参するお弁当は、クラスメートにとても評判で、
隣のクラスからもお昼休みになると見学者が来る、
という自慢のお弁当でした。

いつか、私も母のように食卓を彩ることができたら、
という願いが常にありましたが、
つい最近、近所のカルチャースクールで
「ソープ＆カービング教室」の標識を見るまでは、
これがタイの伝統芸術だということを知りませんでした。
（母も知らずに、趣味でやっていたそうです・・・）

ここ半年の間、芸術作品に触れる機会が多かったせいか、
おそらく、潜在的に芸術への憧れがあったのでしょうね。
でも、
まさか自分が、しかも、外国のアートに興味を持ち、実践するとは思ってもみませんでした。

すぐさま、カルチャースクールへ申し込み！

ネットでカービングの情報を収集しようとするのですが、
アロマセラピーほどには情報が頒布しておらず、
英語でも、もちろん日本語でも、
さほど情報量が多くないのが現状です。

ところが、学校は意外にもどこも人気があって、
満員にはならないけれども、
長く続けていらっしゃる方が多いです。
育児がひと段落なさった方、
老後の趣味のために始めた方が多いです。
意外にも、私は若い方（笑）！
そのため、先生には、インストラクターになることを勧められ、
今に至ります。
ソープカービング歴２か月。
インストラクター取得まであと２年…。
主人は、それまでに何百の石鹸を無駄にするのだろうと嘆いております・・・。

そんなこんなで、
ソープカービングに夢中で、
キーボードには全く手を付けなくなった今日この頃です。

モノづくりって、素敵♪

My mother is very good at using knives.
She decorates plates by cutting fruits and vegetables beautifully and welcomes guests at home.
When I was at secondary school, I brought a box lunch (“o bentou”) every day that my mother cooked.
Her arrangements of food were so beautiful that my box lunch was very popular among classmates.
Sometimes friends in a different classroom came over just to have a look at my lunch.
I was so proud of it 

I had been hoping that one day I would be able to do that as my mother does.
However, until recently when I saw an ad about fruits and soap carving class, it is the art created in Thailand (my mother did not know it either.).

Well, for the half a year, I had opportunities to see artistic works, I probably had an admiration for art, subconsciously.
Actually, I did not have any idea at all before that I would be interested in foreign art and work on it.

As soon as I saw the ad, I applied for the class.

I try to collect information on the Internet, but info on carving does not seem to exist as much as aromatherapy either in English and Japanese.

However, carving class is quite popular in Japan, and classes tend to get nearly full before the start of classes.
I met some people in classes, and most of them keep carving for a long time.
And many of my “classmates” are those who have got more time after childrearing, those who started it as their hobby after retirement.
Unexpectedly, I am rather young among them (lol).
Because of that (I am relatively young), my teacher recommends that I should aim at becoming an instructor, and I have been doing it with passion.

About 2 months have passed.
About 1.5 years until I become an instructor.

My husband wonders what million of soap I will waste until then….

All told, I have been absorbed in soap carving and do not have time for playing keyboards/guitar anymore.

Creating something is wonderful ♪
