My work 8 ~Leaves~

“Spring In Your Heart”

This is the first difficulty that people would face after starting carving, but at the same time, this work has lots of technique that you have to go through.

Two different kinds of leaves (patterns) are carved on.
In order to make it look stereoscopic, daring yet fine techniques are introduced.
I forgot the name of the techniques, but one leaf has 4 kinds of techniques.
One knife is used and it took me about 2 hours.
As I carve more soaps, it should take me less time, but I began to feel awkward caring small and fine stuff.

I named this work “心春(Miharu)”, meaning “(flowers) waiting for spring to come (in their mind); spring in your heart.”
It is the coldest time of year in Japan.
However, everyone has been waiting (in their mind) for spring to come that is surely approaching.
Everyone….animals or insects under the ground, trees and leaves that have been enduring coldness without their clothes, and of course, we human being.
I tried to express that feeling in the leaves.
